COLON HYDROTHERAPY

Frequently Asked Questions about Colon Hydrotherapy

What is a Colonic Irrigation?
A colonic irrigation is a process of cleansing the lower intestinal tract and detoxifying the overall system by allowing a continuous flow of triple filtered water into the colon. This gently dislodges and removes toxic waste matter from the colon. We use the Woods gravity method which allows for the simultaneous intake and exit of water throughout the treatment which enhances your natural peristalsis. This type of colonic is one of the most powerful and effective ways of cleansing and detoxifying the system. Each single use irrigation set is sterile and disposable. The treatment is clean and odorless. The therapist never leaves your side, monitoring and controlling the flow of water throughout the session. Gentle abdominal massage is provided to aid in the elimination process. Each colonic session is approximately 45 to 60 minutes.

Why a colonic and not an enema?
An enema is an introduction of a large amount of water at one time, which you have to try to retain. It's uncomfortable, sometimes with painful cramping. Then, if you can make it to the toilet in time, you have an explosive, foul smelling elimination. All your efforts have only reached 5-10 INCHES of your colon. The colon is typically 5 to 5.5 FEET long! An enema only uses 1 to 2 quarts of water, which is not enough for a thorough cleansing of the entire length of the colon. The pressure of the water needed to move into the upper part of the colon cannot be obtained by using an ineffective enema.
At Brookhampton Wellness Colon Hydrotherapy, the entire length of the colon is gently flushed with temperature controlled, triple filtered water. We use a closed system where the waste is released through a tube directly into the sewer line. There is no odor because no gas or waste is released outside the tube.
The Wood's method is a gravity based system which provides for optimal release of fecal matter. No machines are used. The therapist NEVER leaves the room. During the 45 minute session, a small amount of water is allowed to enter and then allowed to release. The amount of water is increased gradually. Gentle abdominal massage is given to maximize your results. Your privacy and dignity are always maintained.

How do I prepare for a Colonic session?
In preparation for a colonic, 1- 2 days days prior to the appointment, it is suggested that you increase the intake of vegetables, salads, fruits and the intake of filtered, spring or distilled water to about 8 glasses per day. You should also reduce the intake of red meat, bread, sugars and dairy products as best you can. We suggest that you avoid eating anything for 2 hours before the actual treatment. Liquids such as water, teas or juices are permissible.
